Flowers in Ankara
Ankara has no widely documented dedicated flower market, so its floral identity rests on native plants and parks. The Ankara crocus (Crocus ancyrensis, Ankara çiğdemi in Turkish), an orange-yellow species endemic to northern and central Turkey and first found in Ankara, flowers from February to April. Centaurea tchihatcheffii, known as yanardöner or the Gölbaşı love flower, is an endangered endemic knapweed with pinkish-red flowers that peaks in mid-May; it was once sold in some quantity by the city's street florists. Kuğulu Park, a one-hectare park created in 1958 at the end of Tunalı Hilmi Street, is known for swans originally gifted by Vienna.
