Flowers in Sarajevo
Sarajevo has no notable dedicated flower market; Markale, its best-known central market, is a general bazaar. The city's best-documented garden tradition is the Botanical Garden of the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, laid out in 1912 and 1913 under the botanist Karl Malý inside the museum complex. The garden covers 14,270 square metres, holds 12 scientific and exhibition collections and grows around 1,000 plant species. Its rock gardens are arranged by geology, with sections for flora on schist, serpentine, dolomite and limestone, and for the Herzegovinian endemic centre. The museum, founded in 1888, was closed from 2012 to 2015 over funding disputes.
