Flowers in Berlin
Berlin has no well-known public flower market. Its flower trading history centres on the wholesale Blumengroßmarkt. In Kreuzberg, a flower market hall on Friedrichstraße, rebuilt after wartime destruction, opened in 1965. In 2010 the state-owned Berliner Großmarkt sold that hall to the Jewish Museum Berlin. The same year, in May, a new flower market building opened at the Großmarkt site on Beusselstraße in Moabit. Daniel Libeskind converted the old Kreuzberg hall into the museum's academy, which opened in 2012 with a library, public reading room, archive and auditorium.
- The Kreuzberg Blumengroßmarkt hall was rebuilt from 1962 and opened in 1965.
- The state-owned Berliner Großmarkt GmbH sold the hall to the Jewish Museum Berlin (reported December 2010).
- A new flower market building opened at the Großmarkt on Beusselstraße in May 2010.
- The former hall, redesigned by Daniel Libeskind, opened as the Jewish Museum's academy in 2012.
