The city
Flowers in Copenhagen
Copenhagen has no well-known dedicated flower market. Flowers are sold at Israels Plads, where the Torvehallerne market halls opened in 2011 with an open-air vegetable and flower market between them. The square was formerly Grønttorvet, the city's produce market, which opened on 26 April 1889 and closed in 1958, when a new market opened in Valby. That Valby site, also called Grønttorvet, was established as a wholesale market for flowers and produce, serving florists and greengrocers until its last traders left in spring 2016. The site has since been redeveloped.
- Grønttorvet opened at Vendersgade on 26 April 1889 and closed when the Valby market opened on 1 October 1958.
- The Torvehallerne halls opened at Israels Plads in September 2011, with an open-air vegetable and flower market between them.
- Grønttorvet in Valby was a wholesale market for flowers and produce from 1958; the last traders left in spring 2016.
