Flowers in Helsinki
Helsinki has no dedicated flower market. Flowers are among the goods sold at the Market Square (Kauppatori) at the eastern end of Esplanadi, on the Baltic shore, alongside food, fish, handicrafts and souvenirs; the square's Baltic Herring Market dates back to 1743. The city's best-documented flower tradition is the Winter Garden north of Töölönlahti Bay, a public glasshouse that opened in 1893 and has been free to enter ever since. It holds more than 200 different plants in three rooms, including a camellia brought there in 1907. Its rose garden was designed by city gardener Svante Olsson in 1924.
- The Herring Market at Kauppatori was founded in 1743.

- Its oldest plant is a camellia, brought from Villa Hakasalmi in 1907.
