The city
Flowers in Izmir
İzmir does not have a well-known dedicated flower market in the city centre; its flower culture is rooted in production. Bayındır, a district of İzmir province, is described by its municipality and the Turkish press as one of the country's important centres for ornamental plants and flowers. The International Bayındır Flower Festival, organised by Bayındır Municipality, held its 26th edition on 2 to 4 May 2025, with growers selling flowers, ornamental plants and seedlings from stands. In the city itself, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality holds a Balcony and Garden Plants Festival in Kültürpark; its third edition, in May 2026, featured 45 local producers and nine cooperatives, including Bayındır's flower producers' cooperative.
