The city
Mercado do Bolhão
Mercado do Bolhão is Porto's best-known traditional market and one of the city's most emblematic buildings. Its origins date to 1839, and the present building, designed by architect Correia da Silva, was built in 1914. Alongside sections for fish, meat and produce, it has a dedicated flower section. After more than four years of reconstruction, it reopened to the public on 15 September 2022, and most stalls remain in the hands of long-established traders. The market was classified as a monument of public interest in 2013. It opens Monday to Saturday and is closed on Sundays.
