Flowers in Rotterdam
Rotterdam has no well-known dedicated flower market. Its largest open-air market, on the Binnenrotte beside the Markthal, is a general market held on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The city's best-documented flower moment came in 1960, when it hosted the first Floriade, the Dutch international horticultural exhibition. Held in Het Park, near the Maastunnel, from 25 March to 25 September 1960 and opened by Princess Beatrix, it welcomed around four million visitors. The Euromast observation tower, which still stands at Parkhaven, was specially built for the exhibition and opened that year.
