Aura color by zodiac sign: what your sign's color means

There is no official aura color for each zodiac sign, and popular lists disagree, even on Cancer. One transparent pairing starts from each sign's element and traditional ruling planet: Aries red, Leo gold, Cancer silver, Pisces purple. It's astrological symbolism, not science, and your mood can shift the color from day to day.

Is there an aura color for each zodiac sign?

Not officially. Astrology gives every sign an element, a modality and a ruling planet, but it doesn't assign an aura color. Sign color lists are a modern add-on, and the popular ones contradict each other. A transparent way to build one is to start from what the tradition does define. Each sign belongs to one of four elements: fire (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius), earth (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn), air (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) and water (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces). Each also has a ruling planet with its own meaning. Match the element to a color family, with warm colors for fire, greens and browns for earth, light colors for air and cool colors for water. Then match the planet to the aura color whose meaning is closest. That gives every sign a main color and a second color. It's one reasonable pairing, not the answer, and it describes your sign rather than your day.

Both halves of this are symbolic. The encyclopedia entry on astrology and science says astrology "has no scientific validity". The entry on the aura in parapsychology says that in controlled experiments the ability to see auras "has not been proven to exist". So read a sign color as a prompt, not a measurement.

Where do zodiac colors come from?

Zodiac colors borrow from two older parts of astrology: the four classical elements and the planet said to rule each sign. The entry on astrological signs lists each sign's element, modality and classic and modern rulers, which is the raw material for a color pairing.

Some planet links are close to literal. NASA's Mars facts page explains that Mars looks reddish because iron in its rocks has rusted, hence the Red Planet. The entry on the classical planets notes that in alchemy each was paired with a metal, the Sun with gold and the Moon with silver.

Other links are symbolic. The entry on planets in astrology ties Venus to harmony, beauty and love, which sits close to pink's tenderness. It links Mercury with communication and thinking (yellow's curiosity) and Jupiter with growth, adventure and religion (purple's vision).

So why do popular lists disagree?

• Traditional or modern rulers. Scorpio, Aquarius and Pisces have modern rulers (Pluto, Uranus and Neptune) as well as traditional ones (Mars, Saturn and Jupiter). Switch rulers and the color often changes.
• Element first or planet first. A list that starts from water may give Cancer a blue. One that starts from the Moon may give it silver.
• Different color meanings. Writers don't agree on what each aura color means, so the same planet can land on different colors.

Aura colors by zodiac sign: which color goes with each sign?

Here is the full pairing. The main color comes from the traditional ruler, and the second from the element.

Read the two colors like any aura color combination: the main color sets the theme, and the second shapes how it shows. Taurus and Libra share Venus pink, and the element tells them apart.

What aura colors go with fire, earth, air and water signs?

Each element points to a color family. The entry on astrology and the classical elements summarizes the four, after the poet Marcus Manilius: fire as "hot, dry, ardent", earth as "heavy, cold, dry", air as "light, hot, wet" and water as "cold, wet, soft".

Fire signs: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius

The fire sign aura color family is warm: red, orange, yellow and gold. In aura reading, warm colors stand for action, creativity and confidence. Aries takes Mars red, Leo the Sun's gold, and Sagittarius blends Jupiter's purple with a bright, optimistic yellow.

Earth signs: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn

Earth signs get greens and browns, the colors of growth and grounding. Capricorn, for one, grounds Saturn's deep blue in brown.

Air signs: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius

Air signs get light colors: yellow, pale blue, white and silver, read as clarity, conversation and new ideas.

Water signs: Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces

Water signs get cool colors: blue, indigo, purple and sea green, which lean toward calm, intuition and depth.

Should you go by your sun, moon or rising sign?

Take a Sagittarius sun, Taurus moon and Libra rising: purple and yellow at the core, pink and green underneath, pink and white on the surface. Pink twice suggests affection runs through both the private and public layers.

What color is my aura based on my birthday?

Your birthday gives you your sun sign, so find it in the table above and you have your color by this pairing. Born near the change from one sign to the next? Check the exact date and year first, because the change-over day can move by a day.

Your birthday alone can't settle the other two signs. The moon changes sign every two to three days, so you need your birth time to be sure of it. Your rising sign needs the exact time and place. Some birthday aura charts use numerology instead, adding up the digits of your birth date. That's a separate system, and this pairing doesn't use it.

In this pairing, deep red with indigo. Scorpio's traditional ruler is Mars, the red planet linked with energy and courage, and water adds indigo's depth and intuition. Gold, with red as the second color. Leo is ruled by the Sun, and in alchemy the Sun was paired with gold. Fire adds red's warmth and passion. In aura reading, gold stands for purpose and inner strength, which fits a sign known for confidence and self-expression.

Can two people with the same sign have different aura colors?

Does your moon sign change your aura color?

It adds a layer rather than replacing your sun sign color. The moon is astrology's emotional placement, so many people find their moon sign color fits their moods best.
